Today's Speak Up! show host Vivienne talked about a very important and serious topic: The Willow Project.

The Willow Project is a newly aprroved oil drilling Project in Alaska and is operated by ConocoPhillips. It is one of the biggest oil extraction project on federal public land and will impact wildlife, nature and native communities a lot. It started in 1999, was now approved by the Biden Administration and will produce 576 million barrels of oil over 30 years.

Vivienne discovered the background information of this project and the real impact on the indigenous poeple and wildlife in Alaska. To have a better understanding of how the indigenous people argue and think, she invited the indigneous professor Clifford Atleo to talk about the effect of oil drilling projects on indigenous land and people. They discussed the pros and cons of the project and how economy and society can have an effect on indigenous communities.
