Last week’s episode was packed with meaningful conversations and stellar music, giving us a little bit of everything to reflect on and enjoy.
We kicked off the first 15 minutes with the conclusion of an exclusive interview with Lim Jayden, an Indigenous elder and environmental activist from BC. Lim shared thoughtful insights on local politics in the wake of the recent elections and left us with empowering tips for future environmental activists. His wisdom was a timely reminder of the power of community and persistence in the fight for a better world.
Following that, we dove into the important issue of energy policy in Vancouver. Juliana Janot, a climate leader from UBC, broke down the heated city hall debate about whether or not to allow natural gas for heating and water systems. Her perspectives gave us a better understanding of the environmental stakes and how they’ll affect the city’s future.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a CJSF Open Mic episode without some fantastic tunes! Here’s what we spun:
-
Pat Metheny - "My Love and I" (MoonDial)
A beautiful and calming start to the music set, showcasing Pat Metheny’s stunning artistry. -
Bobby Christina’s Caravan - "You Never Can Tell" (True Blues Brother: The Live Sessions)
A high-energy track with a fun, live vibe that had us tapping along. -
Sofi Tukker - "Goddess in Disguise" (Bread)
Infectious beats and uplifting lyrics that brought a touch of modern electro-pop flavor. -
Dan Mangan - "Four Chords" (Being Somewhere)
Dan’s warm, introspective vocals gave us a perfect moment to slow down and take it all in. -
Bag Raiders - "Shooting Stars" (Bag Raiders)
A nostalgic banger that never fails to light up the airwaves. -
Sam Fender - "People Watching" (Single)
We closed the show with this moving track, full of raw emotion and thoughtful storytelling.
And, before we wrapped things up, we gave listeners a sneak peek at what’s coming on Open Mic and Speak Up. Keep your ears open for future episodes covering more community voices, new interviews, and of course, great music!
Thanks for tuning in—same time, same place next week!
