AEW: Dynasty 2026
The fusion of the oldest variation of live theatre and athletics, professional wrestling is as much classical performance as the reinvention of contemporary spectacle. Much like other performances with the primary purpose of entertainment, the consistent engagement with installments of storylines and preexisting feuds fueled by clear-cut ideas of morality are rewarded by inclusion. The usage of tension, emotional beats, and reveals, signify the thrill of pro-wrestling. Of the pro-wrestling promotion giants, All Elite Wrestling stands above the rest. AEW: Dynasty 2026 took place on April 12th 2026 at Rogers Arena; the first AEW pay-per-view to take place in Vancouver, BC. The professional wrestling collective does not disappoint, from title match brawls to zero hour tussles, AEW has something for every fan.
Co-feature, Jon Moxley v. Will Ospreay, was a masterclass in the tension derived from spatial relations. Ospreay’s return from recovery, following the gruesome match against Jon Moxley 6 months prior, set the stage for a rematch fueled by burning retribution. In the moments before impact the crowd’s frustration was found itself taut to a breaking point, the stillness of the foes forced the audience to focus on the negative space between them. Ospreay’s high-octane blend of breathtaking junior heavyweight aerial agility and hard-hitting, physical heavyweight "strong style" was brutally contrasted by Moxley’s brawler persuasion. Often staged on the diagonals, to lend itself to performance in the round, Moxley was found grounded viewing Ospreay at a high angle. Despite the clear suggestion of Ospreay’s authority, his aerial strengths landed with little success. As his loss became clear, Ospreay was often found grounded and beneath Moxley.
Of the most impressive reveals, MJF’s rise from the depths takes the cake. The title match for the AEW World Championship was MJF “The Devil” v. Kenny Omega “The God”. In the ultimate game between good and evil, no expense was spared. The arena fell into darkness and a nauseatingly thick drone sounded. The sound was nearly subsonic, shaking one's insides before a sound could be heard. A fog filled the distant alley stage and from the depths rose “The Devil” seated on a golden throne. The figure rose to meet the ground and the stage was engulfed in flames. Masked, shrouded in darkness, and with minimal sound design, he is the man that your mind invents in the dark.
With a focus on athleticism, complex storytelling and spectacle that honors character, All Elite sets the clear standard for contemporary wrestling.
