Patrick Maliha has been voted favourite Vancouver comedian twice in a row, he is super nice, and yes, he holds the world record for most impressions in a minute. Impressive, I know. And in case you didn’t know he’s a beloved radio host, film critic and writer for TVW, Urban Rush contributor and well, your everyday professional comedian slash MC slash host slash... Okay, he’s a regular modern day Renaissance Man.

March 15th was comedy night at the Rio Theatre and appropriately titled The Legion of Stand-Up Comedians. Our host was local comedy hero, Patrick Maliha; our entertainment was sexually charged burlesque dancers (Les Femmes Fatales) and a hodgepodge of comedic styles.

We’re talking standard fare (here’s the mic, here’s what I’ve got to say), to musical sing-a-long, and the less impressive I hate religion and here’s my rant on life jazz: AKA Dylan Rhymer, Erica Sigurdson, Jane Stanton, Mom’s on the Run and Mike Wolfe.

While the night was a mix of amateur meets seasoned funny peeps, I have to say Mr. Maliha was my favourite. Yes, I’m one of those people...I tell you who I liked most. Second place goes to Erica and third, Jane. But the crowd favourite and the recipient of numero uno accolades by far, Patrick.

Why? Yes he’s been voted favourite Vancouver comedian twice in a row, he is super nice, and yes, he holds the world record for most impressions in a minute. Impressive, I know. And in case you didn’t know he’s a beloved radio host, film critic and writer for TVW, Urban Rush contributor and well, your everyday professional comedian slash MC slash host slash... Okay, he’s a regular modern day Renaissance Man.

He’s got twenty years in the biz actually. But that’s not really what sets him apart. He’s self-deprecating. He’s on top of his cultural references. He’s bright and knows how to work an audience. He’s an entertainer. Not only that, he’s putting on events all over town to promote himself and to help up and coming comedians get some exposure. What a commendable cat.

If you’ve never seen Maliha strut his stuff, be sure to check him out and support local comedy in Vancity. Want a chance to show your comedic genius at one of Maliha’s shows? I suggest you message Patrick on Facebook. Patrick's other sites: Twitter | Youtube. He is super generous.
